Hogg Written for his grandchildren, this is on a text by James Hogg (no relation) from 18th Century England, is appealing to children, and has been wonderfully programmed done by a boy soprano. JOHN ANDERSON, MY JO by David C. Hogg The Robert Burns poem by the same name is very touching...about young love and later more mature love between the same two people as they have climbed the hills together and then are walking down those hills hand in hand later in life. David Hogg gives this setting rhthmic interest in the accompaniment and,in his usual style, is tonal slightly dissonant at times (but his dissonance rarely has the upper hand), and melodic. THE COUNSEL OF THE LORD by Pat Holmberg The soprano and mezzo both have solo parts in this piece...the same melody, only with different lyrics and in different keys, over a contemporary piano accompaniment. They then unite after each of the solo parts in a partly contrapuntal and partly homophonic duet sung over a running eighth note pattern in the piano. THY KINGDOM IS AN EVERLASTING KINGDOM by Pat Holmberg Triads in the accompaniment moving in a whole-tone scale pattern beneath a whole-tone melody in the voice begin and end this piece. The middle part has a flowing tonal accompaniment under a melody in the baritone part. Orchestration for this piece consists of brass and woodwinds-no strings.
