The text is from Charles Wesley, and voice parts alternate between imitation and homphonic movement. Minor seconds turn up from time to time, and there is strong drama in this piece. Unusual harmonic progressions add to the interest. This one can have a real impact anytime, but especially around Good Friday or Easter.
